I ran into a friend of mine last week and he suggested I check out this company he created that allows business professionals to schmooze with other random professionals and broaden their network. Now I don’t know about you but every time I find myself at networking events, I find that I know more than half the people attending. The whole point of networking is to meet people you don’t already know. Enter GoSchmooze...

Why is it so difficult for young professionals to break into their industry? Could it be because of the “generation gap” between them and the already seasoned business professional? Perhaps it is because of the difference in modern business perspectives?
As a young professional who is a product of the digital generation, I have come to notice that seasoned business professionals tend to look down on the newly graduated as inexperienced with a sense of entitlement. However, while I am inexperienced in traditional ways of business, my open minded use of my education allows me to view the marketing world differently than the generation that came before. For instance, was Facebook not conceived by a few college kids in a dorm room?...

Many competent people "self-sabotage" themselves every day by overreacting emotionally and hurting their relationships — both at work and at home and by staying stuck in habits that hurt them, such as procrastination, disorganization, avoiding conflict ... the list goes on and on.
Many professionals can respond with a level head — even if they are ready to "blow a fuse" by adapting to workplace changes — even those that are tough to swallow and by sticking with difficult challenges when solutions don't come easily. They can usually follow through on plans, turn "good intentions" into reality and meet more goals by developing the steady self-control it takes to stand up for yourself and deal with conflicts positively. They are able to break on-the-job habits that hurt you, like procrastination, disorganization, and others...

I just read an article on msnbc.com about how Americans view home ownership. Despite an excruciatingly hard few years for the housing market, an unsurprising amount of Americans still believe that owning their own home is the best long term investment they can make.
We’re all familiar with the housing boom of the 90’s and early 2000’s, after which the mortgage crisis pulled home prices down almost 30% nationwide, with hundreds of thousands of owners losing their homes. However, according to the survey results generated by the Pew Research Center's Social and Demographic Trends project, 81 percent of adults believe "buying a home is the best long-term investment a person can make." The results were typical of the US housing market; nearly half of all homeowners stated that their home is worse less now than before the recession, with the overwhelming majority saying it will take at least three years for values to regain enough ground to make back their losses, while nearly half say it will take at least six years to recover....

Lee Hayes is an 88 year old African American that was one of the 996 black men that comprised the Tuskegee airmen during World War II. His entire life was a fight; a fight for his life in the air, a fight for his country in his heart and a fight to be treated fairly after he risked everything protecting the ideals of a nation that refused to support him when his flying days were over. It is heartening to see that he is not a bitter man, but rather a determined one that has the strength of his conviction and the fortitude of a war hero.
Every entrepreneur fights their own daily battle. We have our own enemy fighters to dodge in the marketplace; skeptics and naysayers that try to keep us from realizing our potential, competitors that disparage because they can't compete with our ability and stamina, and sometimes clashing with our elected officials that don't head our warnings and pleads of fair treatment and proper taxation...

Believing there is a strong correlation between business and fitness is one thing but, actually taking the initiative to build a better business and feel motivated while doing so is another. It is a fact that fitness boosts brainpower, melts away stress, gives you energy and enhances performance in both your personal and professional life. I’m not saying that people who are overweight cannot be successful business professionals but, if you are looking for a more positive outlook in your life and business, I suggest you incorporate some type of physical activity...

Many busy professionals find it difficult to incorporate wellness into their hectic schedules but what if they integrated wellness into the place where they spend most of their time- the office.
Our company along with twenty other companies participated in the Action Long Island Wellness Challenge where we implemented Healthy Work Programs, scheduled educational “Lunch and Learn” seminars and participated in the American Heart Association’s Online Health Tracker Program. The program ended in November but that didn’t stop us from continuing to promote wellness throughout the company....

There is no denying the impact that social media has on the way we operate in our personal and professional lives. Incorporating Twitter and Facebook into my business while staying connected to emails with my blackberry has enabled me to keep one foot in the door at all times.
