Acquiring the skills to not only grab someone’s attention, but develop a relationship with that person is the key to successful marketing. Integrating social media opportunities into your current marketing plan can present itself as a challenge to many, but with the rise of technology, it is almost a requirement to know how to market your company using new media. Just be sure to remember those core “time-tested” techniques you learned before the days of social media. Applying old fashioned techniques to modern day social media, will give you an advantage in exactly how to dominate the world of marketing yourself and your business.
- People value personal interaction, so be sure your contact information is readily accessible from all outlets. Your LinkedIn, Facebook or Twitter pages should each be set up so that potential clients find it easy to get in contact with you. They may prefer to set up face to face appointments, and bringing your web world into the real world is a necessity to get the most value out of your web presence.
- Remember brand rules. Social media branding should be an extension of your current branding initiatives. Your social media pages should mirror the colors, logos, tone, etc. used in your other marketing materials. Maintaining your brand image will prevent confusion, increase awareness, and improve your ability to generate buzz.
- Follow up is essential. You must reach out to people that visit your social media pages. Acknowledging that they have taken the time to view your site makes them feel appreciated. Re tweeting and commenting on others’ posts keeps you in constant contact, leading to that long term relationship I touched on earlier. Creating a community of professionals committed to helping one another can only benefit all participants!
I can assure you that incorporating social media into any marketing plan based on “time-tested” techniques will help put you on the top of your game. Remember the fundamentals of marketing and the reasons why they have worked for so long to help you excel in today’s competitive world of business.
