Everyone knows that this popular social media site is great for connecting with friends, family and attracting people to your business brand. I thought I had heard of every use of Facebook until I had a conversation with Basso On Business client Brian Fagan. Brian has been struggling with keeping himself on task and remaining motivated to accomplish the important things he needs to do each day to reach his goals. He recently started mapping out his schedule to stay focused in order to assure his goals are met, but it was not enough to hold him accountable.
Enter Facebook.
Brian innocently started posting where he was when he was out on the road. He would update his status after he got out a meeting and tell his contacts where he was, how he was doing and sometimes non-confidential details of the meeting. After weeks of doing this he realized that his posts gave him a sense of victory over his day. It was also a timeline of how he spent his time and memorialized what he had accomplished. He also promoted the prospect and current client- an added benefit.
Having little victories throughout the day and week give him perspective on how hard he is actually working and made him feel confident about the effort he had been putting into meeting his goals. Brian used ingenuity and showed his resourcefulness and used technology to have his peers hold him a bit accountable while keeping himself on track. By making certain appointments and personal items available to the public, Brian is not hiding behind his issues; he is bringing them front and center and letting the world help him become the professional he strives to be.
Let Facebook help you be accountable to yourself. Try it for a week to see how you feel and let me know how it goes. Let the Basso On Business Team know before you start and we can chronicle your progress to our readers. The first to agree to do this will get FREE admission to a Working Lunch with Rob program (new attendees only please) and we’ll share your progress with the rest of the participants. Good luck!
