Sudden cardiac arrest can happen to anyone at any time. Many victims appear healthy with no known heart disease or other risk factors.
Sudden Cardiac Arrest
• EMS treats about 300,000 victims of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest each year in the U.S.
• Less than eight percent of people who suffer cardiac arrest outside the hospital survive.
• Sudden cardiac arrest is not the same as a heart attack. Sudden cardiac arrest occurs when electrical impulses in the heart become rapid or chaotic, which causes the heart to suddenly stop beating. A heart attack occurs when the blood supply to part of the heart muscle is blocked. A heart attack may cause cardiac arrest....

Did you know that there’s a website with information about thousands of airlines seats? If you haven’t checked out the seat for your upcoming flight on www.SeatGuru.com, I suggest you head over to the website to get recent traveler information. I recently appeared on Fox Business Network’s Cheryl Casone show, and one of my fellow guests was none other than SeatGuru.com founder, Matthew Daimler. Matthew is a ground breaking entrepreneur that saw a gap in the information provided about airplane seats on the various airlines and decided to step in and fill that void. A frequent traveler, he launched SeatGuru in October of 2001 with a single color-coded interactive airplane chart to share his knowledge with his fellow travelers and asked that they add their own information to seats that have not yet been updated. After receiving 10 million visitors, SeatGuru now includes over 700 airplane seat maps from almost 100 airlines.

Brian Fagan of All Boro has been working diligently with the Basso on Business team to make changes in every aspect of his professional life in order to achieve his goals. This week his task was to focus on implementing some of the Basso on Business team’s initial suggestions on changing his thought process in order to change the way he views his professional interactions and their outcomes. If Brian can start changing the way he thinks and views the challenges he encounters, he can begin to turn each of those challenges into new opportunities.

McDonald’s announced in early April that they would be adding 50,000 jobs in a one-day hiring extravaganza. They will also be using this hiring spree to fight the negative connotation of the term “McJob”. The 50,000 new employees will fill job openings from restaurant crew to managers and will increase the company’s workforce by over 7%.
The term “McJob" was added to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary in 2003 and has remained there despite the company's protests. Personally, I hadn’t heard of the term before, and I don’t know if I would have made the leap from “McJob” to low-wage. I did a little research to see if the “McJob” deserves its bad reputation? Some say no. In order to stay competitive with its biggest hiring adversary, Starbucks, McDonald’s offers flexible schedules, competitive wages, free meals and depending on the franchise owner, health insurance, prescription drug coverage, educational assistance and more. Taking it a step further, in 2005 McDonald's sought to boost the image of its restaurant jobs in ads featuring singer Macy Gray and track-and-field Olympian Carl Lewis, both of whom worked at McDonald's. Was the campaign to change its image successful? Apparently not if McDonald’s is still working to change the general perspective during this hiring boom...

I just read an article on msnbc.com about how Americans view home ownership. Despite an excruciatingly hard few years for the housing market, an unsurprising amount of Americans still believe that owning their own home is the best long term investment they can make.
We’re all familiar with the housing boom of the 90’s and early 2000’s, after which the mortgage crisis pulled home prices down almost 30% nationwide, with hundreds of thousands of owners losing their homes. However, according to the survey results generated by the Pew Research Center's Social and Demographic Trends project, 81 percent of adults believe "buying a home is the best long-term investment a person can make." The results were typical of the US housing market; nearly half of all homeowners stated that their home is worse less now than before the recession, with the overwhelming majority saying it will take at least three years for values to regain enough ground to make back their losses, while nearly half say it will take at least six years to recover....

When you hear the word “leader” Alexander the Great, Martin Luther King Jr., Teddy Roosevelt are just a few names that come to mind but, what about great business leaders? How do you become a strong leader in your organization? Leadership skills are not something you learn overnight; developing good leadership skills takes time. To me, a leader should not only demonstrate courage, competence, and a clear vision of where he/she wants to take the company but a leader should also visually look the part. It’s important to be confident in your leadership role. Jeff Tempone from East Coast Refrigeration felt a lack of leadership respect in his organization. After spending some time with Jeff, we found out that the issue began with Jeff not his employees. It was Jeff’s fault for not positioning himself as the driver of his company. It’s important for Jeff to become a leader to achieve breakout success and navigate his company to prosperity. Comment below and let us know what characteristics you think a leader should have.

A company mission statements helps your employees understand what you’re trying to do as a business owner and what exactly the company should strive for. Your mission statement is the driving force behind your company philosophy. Mission statements should be succinct and easy to understand so that it paints a clear picture of what exactly you want your business to accomplish. When employees feel confident in their mission and rally around it, it makes it easy for others to feel confident in your services. Since we last visited Jeff Tempone from East Coast Refrigeration, we learned that Jeff not only created and applied a company mission statement to his business but asked all of his employees to create their own personal mission statements to help them reach their full potential. Take a look at your mission statement and ask yourself; is it driving clients to your business?
